Semrock Introduces Suite of Advanced BrightLine™ Fluorescence Filters for Use with UV Excitation

Rochester, NY – Semrock, Inc., provider of the industry-leading BrightLine™ series of high-performance fluorescence filters, today announced a suite of new fluorescence filter sets specifically for use with UV-excitation sources. These exceptional new filter sets, including a Fura-2 set for fast Ca2+ imaging, a low-noise high-sensitivity DAPI set, and a high-performance multiband "Pinkel" set, are all in stock for quick shipment.

Semrock's new four-filter Fura-2 set is specially designed to achieve high-performance and fast, but highly accurate, ratiometric imaging of Ca2+. The carefully optimized excitation filters provide superb balance of free and saturated Ca2+ signals, while minimizing crosstalk and background noise. The exceptionally high throughput of this filter set permits reliable Fura-2 (Ca2+) measurements, even when using light sources of relatively limited ultraviolet output. Independent laboratories have measured this set to have from 2 to 4 times the free and saturated signals as filters from the leading competitor.

A new high-sensitivity filter set for the blue fluorophores DAPI and Hoechst is optimized for achieving very low noise (background) yet exceptionally high brightness, resulting in the highest contrast (signal-to-noise ratio) set on the market. It also provides low phototoxicity and low photobleaching of other fluorophores in multi-color systems. The overall throughput is as much as 4 times that of the leading competitor's DAPI set, while providing as much as 50 percent higher contrast. This new set is the unparalleled choice for most applications, especially those involving electronic imaging, and is an excellent complement to Semrock's original wide-band-exciter DAPI set (that offers the highest brightness on the market – ideal for very low fluorophore concentrations).

Also new to the BrightLine™ product line is a new five-filter DAPI/FITC/Texas Red "Pinkel" set (includes three single-band exciters), based on the popular and award-winning BrightLine™ multiband set. With its high brightness, extremely low crosstalk, and superb signal-to-noise performance, this new set is ideal for very high-speed imaging of blue, green, and red fluorophores using a low-noise monochrome camera.
