Position: Manufacturing Technician

Semrock, Inc.—based in Rochester, New York—develops and manufactures high-performance optical thin-film filters that set the standard for biotech and analytical instrumentation. Semrock is a rapidly growing company, with revenue from both the volume OEM sales of tailored products and from the sales of standard catalog products to end-users. Position Description:

Semrock is currently looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Technician for its optical filter manufacturing operations. The right candidate will have significant experience with optical manufacturing technology. Specific job responsibilities include:

• Analyze production measurement data for conformance to product specifications;
• Update and maintain the internal database of manufacturing specifications and the system used for generating manufacturing work instructions;
• Support the optics manufacturing operation with both equipment and process expertise;
• Real-time troubleshooting of manufacturing issues as well as off-line projects;
• Work with manufacturing engineers to improve process and equipment reliability.

Key success criteria for this position are: customer satisfaction, as measured by product quality and on-time delivery, as well as manufacturing yields.

Background and Qualifications:

Success in this position requires the applicant to have:

• A minimum of a 2-year technical degree and 3+ years experience with optics manufacturing, or 6+ years relevant experience;
• Direct experience with the handling, processing, and cleaning of optical-quality glass substrates and coatings;
• Experience using optical measurement systems as applied to thin film coated optics, such as spectrophotometers, interferometers, and microscopes, is desirable;
• Strong written and oral communication skills;
• Proficiency with MS office applications, in particular Excel and Access;
• Basic understanding of computer hardware and interfaces;
• Experience with statistical process control and lean manufacturing methods.
