How Does BrightLine BasicTM Compare?

Comparison to Soft-coated Fluorescence Filters

How do BrightLine Basic filters compare to even the premium soft-coated fluorescence filters that are still in wide use today? Hard-coated BrightLine Basic filter sets are at least tens of percent brighter, yet with comparable or better contrast. Further, every BrightLine Basic filter has the proven durability common to all BrightLine® filters. Semrock's BrightLine filters are made with hard-coated, single-glass-substrate construction (no epoxy in the light path), providing our renowned "no-burn-out" performance for consistent measurements time after time and reduced cost of ownership. Yet even with their superior performance and durability, BrightLine Basic sets are priced lower than many of the soft-coated filter sets that are in widespread use!

Comparison to other BrightLine Fluorescence Filters

Semrock's highest-performance BrightLine filter sets offer the best fluorescence filters available, while the value-priced BrightLine Basic filter sets provide a high level of performance and proven durability at an outstanding price. The table below provides a more detailed comparison between corresponding sets optimized for a particular fluorophore, describing the BrightLine set performance relative to the BrightLine Basic set performance.

Notes on BrightLine filter set to BrightLine Basic filter set comparison information:
  • Only sets which have corresponding BrightLine and BrightLine Basic sets are listed.
  • Brightness is based on relative throughput using the primary fluorophore and assuming typical metal-halide lamp and CCD camera spectral responses.
  • Contrast is the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), assuming the background noise is dominated by broadband autofluorescence (as is typically the case in moderate to higher fluorophore concentration samples).
  • *Actual results may vary depending on instrumentation and the exact sample preparation, which can substantially impact the spectra and relative intensities of the fluorophore and background
